I work with chief executives of charities, voluntary organisations, NGOs and other third sector organisations as a supervisor, coach and mentor – both one to one and in ‘Tough at the Top’ – professional peer support groups.
In a hierarchical organisation support for the lead executive can be minimal and does not reflect a sector where professional support is considered paramount. Some CEOs are supervised or mentored by their Chairs but this seems to be the exception rather than the rule.
The very nature of your position may render you isolated, having no peers within the workplace. How appropriate is it to discuss work, personal or inter-personal issues with colleagues or members of your board?
