About Me

Amanda Falkson MBACP

I first trained in counselling in 1987 and went on to train as a psychotherapist in 1999. I remain in post-graduate ongoing professional development and supervision at Spectrum, which is my training organisation. I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and The Association for Humanistic Psychology in Britain.

My approach is concerned with the development of each individual's potential and to support the personal search to bring about a deeper, more meaningful experience of our lives. My training has provided me with a wide range of techniques and diagnostic models from both traditional and modern psychotherapeutic disciplines. This allows me to be open and flexible to different needs and be able to respond in a variety of different ways.

I have personally experienced how counselling and psychotherapy can be transformational, as it has brought about immensely positive changes in my own life. It continues to be a way of understanding myself and the way in which I relate to others, and it gives me a deeper and more satisfying experience of being alive.

I am currently particularly motivated by Bert Hellinger’s systemic approach to resolving the issues of families and organisations and of Peter Levine’s somatic work in the healing and prevention of trauma. I take pleasure in accompanying my clients in their endeavour to heal, grow and learn more about themselves. I am constantly inspired by the natural world and earth-centred spirituality, both of which support all my endeavours.

I founded and facilitate Tough at the Top, professional support groups for Chief Executives of charities. I also coach CEOs on a one-to-one basis. I co-founded and co-facilitate Chairtalk, support groups for Chairs of the board of trustees of charities, with Martin Farrell of get2thepoint. I write a regular column in Third Sector Magazine as The Career Coach, highlighting personal and professional issues that CEOs face in leading charitable organisations.

My background is in holistic therapies: I had a bodywork practice for fourteen years. Prior to that I was in hospitality: I had a small company providing outside catering and gourmet hampers and I also acted as wine consultant to individual collectors. My early years were in advertising: tv/radio production and media planning/buying.

I am co-founder of "The Food Chain", a London-wide charity that supplies and delivers specially prepared, nutritionally balanced meals to people who are living with HIV-related illnesses. www.foodchain.org.uk

I am a member of the Independent Advisory Group to the City of London Police.
